December 06 More room, mate!
Thirty
years after it was set up, the crocodile farm in Phuentsholing, Bhutan
may finally be able to breed the highly endangered Gharial crocodile.
"The existing pond [was] not deep enough for mating, during which
there is a lot of movement," said the manager.
The
farm receives more than a hundred visitors everyday, mostly Indian
tourists from across the border.

Are
farm raised crocodiles now raiding Malaysian villages after last week's
floods?
A
villager had spotted a crocodile eating his chicken and reported the
matter to the authorities, but the latter are waiting for flood waters
to recede. "It is impossible to catch the crocodile as the water is
too deep and it is too risky."
A
crocodile farm had reported that 23 reptiles had escaped from captivity.

December 06 Lufkin zoo continues quest For missing rare alligator
In
Texas, Ellen Trout Zoo officials continue searching for possibilities to
what happened to their Chinese alligator, "Mr. Grumpy" - as he
was known to his keepers - that was reported missing Dec. 21, and they
have come up with a possible explanation. Zoo Director Gordon Henley said there was a remote possibility that a bird of prey might have taken 7 1/2 year old/ 6 pound Mr. Grumpy away.
The
value of Chinese alligators is between $15,000 and $100,000, and they
can live as long as 30 to 40 years.

Jamaican
residents of St. Catherine have expressed concern that they are left
vulnerable to several crocodiles living in a sewage nearby treatment
pond.
They say that whenever it
rains and the water level rises, the large crocs virtually take over the
area.
The
pond is located close to the school which serves the community.

Smuggled crocs to get £1m home at zoo
Three
smuggled Cuban crocodiles, reportedly the most aggressive species in the
world, are to be given a £1 million new home at Britain's Paignton Zoo.
The Cuban crocodile is one of the most threatened New World
crocodilian species, with an estimated wild population of 3,000 to

The
water taken from the Nigerian home of a 40-year old crocodile is
believed by locals to be able to cure measles.

Malaysian
zoo authorities have confirmed that the creature terrorising villagers
in Kampung Tasik here since Sunday is a crocodile and not a monitor
lizard. "We are now monitoring the crocodile's movements. We will
set up traps as soon as the flood subsides.
Officials said it would be easier to trap the crocodile, which
was estimated to be about 1.8m/5.9ft long and weigh about 70kg/154lb, in

After
dozens of crocodile attacks in village ponds, a village in India has
unveiled a plan to develop a "crocodile reserve" to reduce
people-crocodile conflicts.
"We have decided to wire fence the ponds and keep villagers
and crocodiles in two different territories," said a government

A
Malay crocodile farm denies rumours that some of its reptiles had
escaped from their cages due to the unexpected flood.
It was reported Sunday that villagers in the Kota Tinggi area had
claimed that 15 crocodiles from the farm were on the loose after
escaping from their cages.

Alligators in fenced pond are dead meat
A
Florida retention pond near William G. Roe Park may become the gravesite
of four hungry alligators who have become trapped - the alligators have
been there for some time now and there aren't many fish in the pond to
keep them fed.
Attempts
to find someone to move the gators have not been successful and the
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission response would be to
