An alligator never makes a good pet
A
Kentucky reporter's take on why crocs are not good pets:
They
can not be domesticated. As one Web site put it, cat and dog moods can
be 'bratty to bully,' but alligators can be 'horrid to murderous.'
"Apart
from the danger the animal poses, they are completely impractical as
pets."

Experts poke holes in gator theory
A
Tallahassee, Florida herpetologist has commented that it was
“unlikely” that a Florida alligator had anything to do with the
December 2000 disappearance of a local fisherman.
Alligators
in North Florida typically don't feed between November and March, when
average temperatures drop below 65 degrees, reptile experts said. The
temperature for the time of the disappearance averaged below 55 degrees,
dropping to 19 at night.

'It's time to turn tables on alligators'
One
reporter’s take on the recent initiatives by Florida's game commission's
considerations on how to make it easier to get rid of a gator.
Apparently, a lot of Floridians now think they've got more gators
than they'll ever need.
“It's
time again to put all gators on notice that humans are dangerous, and
getting too close could portend a future as a handbag”.
The
commission's only question is how to best manage a state full of good 'ole
boys ready and willing to put gators back in their place. http://www.news-press.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061213/COLUMNISTS09/6

Crocodile Stevenson! UK: Former zoo owner wants license to keep creatures A former zoo owner wants to keep two dwarf crocodiles, two spectacled caimans, two Cuvier's dwarf caimans and a Chinese alligator at his home in Merstham, UK. His eventual plan is to set up a crocodile park in the area. If Mr. Stevenson is granted his license, the crocodiles will be kept in large enclosures, with regular checks by the council, and he will have to reapply each year for a new license. http://www.redhillandreigatelife.co.uk/news/localnews/display.var.1071735.0.

13 December 06 Stray crocodile `not from wild'
An Indian marsh crocodile that strayed into a house could not have been from the wild, says herpetologist Romulus Whitaker. Mr. Whitaker said a kite or a crow could have picked up a two- or three-day old baby crocodile from captivity in a zoo, which could have slipped and fallen into a water body. The baby crocodile could have gone undetected for years and come out now. http://www.hindu.com/2006/12/13/stories/2006121315300300.htm
13 December 06 Residents live in fear of crocodiles
South Africans living live near the Nandoni Dam fear falling prey to the numerous crocodiles which inhabit the area. The U.S. Border Patrol in Yuma found a 4-foot Caiman (an alligator-like crocodilian) stashed in the suitcase of a California man who was on his way to Phoenix. "When I took him (the seized caiman) to my office, he was pretty saucy," said Rebecca Wright, law enforcement program manager. "He was interested in not being in the pet porter anymore, and I was very interested in keeping him in there." Wright said it's the fourth 'alligator' she has seen in the Yuma area in the last 17 years. She said they're more common in Phoenix, where there have been 20 seizures of reptiles of the crocodile family in the last six months. The alligator was being evaluated by the Phoenix Herpetological Society. "He was a very healthy and beautiful animal," Wright said. "He will be given meals of chicken with vitamins sprinkled on top." http://kvoa.com/Global/story.asp?S=5796260&nav=HMO6HMaW
