Man sneaks crocs onto plane

'Crocs on a plane '... gangsters attempt to kill a witness by .... Ooops, sorry, wrong script.

Let's try this: A Filipino man who flew home from Cambodia was intercepted possessing three half-metre long Siamese crocodiles in his carry-on. Its unknown how the man was able to carry the crocs onto the plane in from Phnom Penh ("The crocs are OK but 'you' have to take off yours shoes"? Wes).  Of interest, Philippine police were on the lookout for this particular individual after learning that he had been refused an import permit for the animals.

Fish-eater croc spreads panic

(Though dated in October, this item was recently found, and will be archived with this week's news items. -Ed.)
The sighting of five adult gharials near Chapagur has spread panic among villagers living along a river. Villagers are refusing to either wash clothes or bathe in the water, and are keeping their livestock back from the shores. Gharials had not been seen in the area for a long time and forest minister Ananta Roy said that this sighting was good news: "There is a gharial breeding and release centre in Uttar Pradesh and the sighting is a proof that conservation projects are having an impact and allowing the endangered species to make a comeback."
