Alligators 'chases' Fla. woman

While she checks mailbox

Bradenton, Florida - Neighbors in the Summerfield Crest section of Lakewood Ranch enjoy the peaceful ponds here, but they're terrified of the creature that's been lurking in their yards and their streets.

Karen Sherrard says an eight-foot/2.4 meter - long alligator attacked her early Saturday morning when she checked her mail.

"I took off out of instinct and it ran after me. It came on the sidewalk and ran down two houses," said Sherrard.

(The description of the alligator's "chasing" behavior seems suspicious. -I.D.)

Big alligator on Alabama causeway

It was quite a commute for on Baldwin County, A.labama woman this morning who ran into a rather scaly speed bump on her way to work.

Chasity Gulsby has quite a tale to tell. "Driving across the causeway and all of a sudden I was driving and I hit this bump went up in the air and went down and I looked back and there was an alligator. I hit an alligator on the causeway."

She could hardly believe it, "I turned around and went back and looked and there's a gator laying on the side of the road and I'm like what?"

Alabama Fish and Wildlife officers say it's not unusual to see alligators on the causeway. This one turned out to be 12 ft./3.7 m in length.

Missouri cop turns alligator wrangler

In Miller County, Missouri, USA, an Eldon police officer went beyond the call of duty when a run-in with an alligator and six-foot /1.8 meter snake turned a normal work day into an experience right out of 'Croc Files.'

When the city's animal control officer was scheduled a day off last week, a uniform policeman had to step in and respond to two separate incidents involving scaly reptiles.

20ft crocodiles still on the loose

An update to last week's "Thai police hunt fugitive crocodiles":

Residents of Non Sung, Thailand, have more than a wet carpet to deal with after flooding -- eleven hungry crocodiles some as big as 6 m/20ft long.

A total of 34 crocodiles escaped over the top of their fenced enclosure at a reptile farm which breeds the animals for their meat and skins when a flood hit the area on Wednesday.

Shotgun weilding marksmen crusing northern Thailand in boats have found and killed 23 of the reptiles but the remaining 11 remain at large.
