Loose gator netted in Pennsylvania

Yesterday afternoon, a loose alligator's leisurely sunbathing in Pennyback Creek, Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania, USA, was rudely interrupted by animal control officers. By noon today, the gator had a new address: the Elmwood Park Zoo's wetlands exhibit, near otters, flamingos, turtles and small wading birds.

"He's pretty friendly," said Warminster public works director, Buddy Mullen. "If you rub him underneath his neck a little bit, he likes that."

Lawmakers: Okay to feed

Wild alligators in Louisiana

The House of the Louisiana, USA, State Legislature soundly defeated a bill that would have banned the intentional feeding of wild alligators, with opponents mocking the measure and claiming it would take wildlife agents away from more important work.

"Are our citizens randomly running into swamps and feeding wild alligators?" Rep. Jean-Paul Morrell, D-New Orleans, asked Rep. William Daniel, R-Baton Rouge, who was handling the bill in the House.

Australia croc safari hunting plan back?

Crocodiles could be hunted safari style in Australia's Top End after the Federal Government agreed to reconsider a proposal from the Northern Territory Government.

Despite the fact the proposal was part of the NT Government's Crocodile Management Plan, former federal environment minister Ian Campbell ruled the proposed $25,000 safari hunts would send the wrong message to the world.

But NT Environment Minister Marion Scrymgour today said she had personally approached her current federal counterpart, Malcolm Turnbull, earlier this year for reconsdieration of the plan.
