UK duo to travel to India 

To help crocs improve image

A local piece from Great Britain: Two Cheshire, England students from the Reaseheath College animal management course will travel to India in May to study crocodile conservation at the Madras Crocodile Bank. Their hope is that their work will encourage a better relationship between the reptiles and neighboring villagers.

Residents relieved after gator capture

 

A nearly 3 meter/10 foot-long alligator was first spotted in a ditch Thursday in the Los Encinos area of Corpus Christi, Texas, USA. Many people were worried about the animal. Some people had been trying to feeding the alligator, which is illegal. The alligator had called a drainage ditch home, just a few blocks from an elementary school.

Nile croc caught in unlikely territory

 

Many curious objects are fished out of the mucky urban Eerste River, but this week a gardener was taken aback when he discovered a young Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus) perched on a rock. apparently, this Cape river is out of the crocodile species' normal reach.

Chambal river sanctuary, India

 

From the World Wildlife Federation, a report:

“When I started my work in wildlife 18 years ago, the Chambal River was bountiful with crocodiles, turtles, dolphins and otters,” remembers Dr Sandeep Behera, WWF-India’s freshwater species coordinator. “Today, one has to be extremely lucky to sight even a few gharial [Gavialis gangeticus] in the area.”

Queensland Gov't seeks citizens' views

Regarding crocodile management

 

The Queensland Government is encouraging Queenslanders to have their say on the protection and management of one of Queensland's most iconic animals - the estuarine or saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus).
During a visit to a well known crocodile habitat in Rockhampton today, Environment Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr released the draft Nature Conservation (Estuarine Crocodile) Conservation Plan 2007 for public comment.

Crocodile found in car

 

An Australian man who possibly suffered a fit while driving, was found slumped over the steering wheel of a car – and he had a stolen 30cm/foot-long fresh water crocodile in a bucket of water on the front passenger seat (as well as a male bearded dragon, a 'jacky' lizard, two blue tongue lizards and a children's python in a cardboard box in the back).
